Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q:How do you do it?
A:This is by far the most common question. Each string of lights is connected to a computerized light controller from Light-O-Rama. These controllers are, in turn, connected to a computer running software to make the each string of lights flash, twinkle, fade, or shimmer on command while playing the music. In turn the computer is connected to a low power FM Transmitter to enable the music to be heard from your car. See the Technical link above for more information.
  • Q:Who's the woman talking at the end of the show?
A:Her name is Kathleen Keesling, she is a professional voice talent who graciously donated her time for our light show. If you are in need of a professional voice for projects such as commercials, voice mail, narratives, training audio, or more. Please contact her! Her website is http://www.katsvoice.net
  • Q:How much is the electric bill?
A:The answer to this question remains between us and Toledo Edison. However, due to the fact the lights are being turned on and off, it's much cheaper than having all the lights on all the time.
  • Q:How much did all this cost?
A:Honestly, I do not know. If I were to keep a running total, I'd probably faint. (And then my wife would kill me.) I can tell you, it's not cheap no matter how you look at it.
  • Q:How many lights do you have?
A:This year we have just a tad over 10,000 lights.
  • Q:How long does it take to set up?
A:Music selection and layout planning takes most of the year. The physical setup took about 15 hours this year. The programming and sequencing of the lights with the music takes between 4 and 10 hours per every minute of music. This year took approximately 50 hours to get the lights sequenced.
  • Q:How are you able to transmit to my radio?
A:The Federal Communication Commision provides for low power, non-licensed transmitters in accordance with the rules and regulations in 47 CFR Part 15.
